to About

It all started with dance.

Since I can remember, I've been dancing From a young age, music, rhythm, expression and choreography have drawn me deeper and deeper into the beautiful artform of dance. I feel most alive when I dance, and cherish opportunities to connect to music and people. I am grateful to have a body that can move and explore and grow, and a curiosity that requires me to keep digging for new ideas about movement, direction, and choreography. Upon discovering a passion for telling stories through performance, theatre became an exciting place to uncover my talents as an actress and singer, and further expand my abilities as a dancer and choreographer. I love the opportunities and challenges innate to theatre - collaborating thoughtfully with others, finding clarity in how to tell a story, and connecting in a meaningful way with musicians, performers, and audience members. I believe that storytelling has the capability of connecting and enlightening people and serves as an instigator for change, growth, and healing.

Choreography

Making moves.

As a choreographer, I am interested in movement that is textured, specific, and intentional. From contemporary to musical theater, I love to engage an audience with movement that musicalizes and challenges the soundscape while also telling a story. An avid reader since childhood, I love looking to the words of others (lyrics, poetry, quotes, novels, scripts) to add depth and intention to the work I am creating.

Teaching

Paying it forward.

Threaded through my love for performing and creating is a joy for teaching dancers of all ages and backgrounds Integral to my classes are the use of conversation and historical context. I believe collective growth can be achieved through sharing our unique perspectives on dance and the world, and through studying the work and ideals of those who have played a role in developing dance history. As dance is most often a silent artform, it is important for me to hear what my students are thinking and feeling about the material being explored, and more important still for them to hear from one another. I have been extremely fortunate to have had two and a half decades of dance training, with a myriad of teaching styles, movement styles, and approaches which inform my dancing and teaching. My goal as a teacher is to synthesize the material I have been exposed to in order to provide avenues for my students to explore and learn, while encouraging them to find their unique artistic voice through choice-making, improvisation, and composition.
